ADULT RANKS
 
White Belt
Learning, discovery and implementation phase; White Belt students are expected to focus on class attendance, consistency, and home study. White belt is the biggest development phase both mentally and physically as your mind and body adjusts to the training lifestyle; trust in the process and enjoy the journey.   

Green Belt
A Green Belt student is expected to show an unwavering consistency to their training and displays a solid understanding of fundamental techniques and can demonstrate effortless control of their peers in pressure situations. This phase of training is about technique refinement and the beginning of building on advanced concepts to develop a strategic game.  

Brown Belt
A Brown Belt student demonstrates exceptional application of fundamental and advanced techniques; and can display these against advanced students in high pressure situations; this student can be creative with technique and flow effortlessly. Brown Belts are excepted to develop their fight IQ and look to identify and resolve any areas of weakness in their training in preparation for their Black Belt journey.  

Black Belt
A Black Belt has a very deep layer understanding of all fundamental and advanced techniques including variations to respond to opponent variables. Black Belts have the ability to be creative with principles and can display effortless control against high level students under intense pressure situations. They have taken considerable time in their journey to develop their Mind, Body and Spirit and show a lifetime dedication to the art.

Techniques List.

Etiquette, Training & Sparring Rules.

Etiquette 
​Studio Etiquette

  • Arrive minimum 5mins early to class to show respect to the teachers and students to show you are ready to learn; if you are late, ask permission to enter the class and apologise to the instructor

  • Bow as you enter and exit the mat space

  • Climbing on the equipment is prohibited

  • Sign in to the iPad to register attendance

  • Water bottle and thongs to be kept to the side of the mat against the mirror wall, and bags to be neatly stored underneath seats

  • Thongs are to be worn off the mat areas


Personal Appearance & Hygiene

  • Uniform and body to be kept clean and free of any smell, feet to be cleaned before entering the mat

  • Finger and toe nails are to be kept short at all times

  • Long hair to be tied up

  • A t-shirt or rash guard to be worn underneath the uniform

  • Uniform is to be worn in it's entirety (jacket, pants, belt, and crest sewn onto jacket); no t-shirts or mis-matched pants.

  • Belt tied correctly

  • No jewellery is to be worn as it has the potential to scratch others or become dislodged


Expectations & Behaviour

  • Strictly listen and follow the instruction from the teachers; failure to do this and you will be removed from the class  

  • Before and after sparring or training; students are to bow to their training partner or "slap and bump" fists to show respect.

  • Students are encouraged to remove any power or strength and focus on application of technique

  • Removal of any egotistical behaviour 

  • Show respect your training partners and teachers at all times

  • Sit down either seated, or kneeling when instruction is taking place and refrain from talking

  • Questions are encouraged, please raise your hand


 
 
Safety Rules

Sparring & Training
Students are to show respect to their training partners and protect them during training and sparring where possible.

Kids are to have permission from their parent or guardian to participate in any sparring activities and all parties fully understand the risks associated. Kids must be 7yrs+ and have a minimum rank of White Belt - 1-Stripe to be eligible for sparring.


The liability waiver must be completed with all associated risks understood (click here to complete the liability waiver) 

Protective equipment must be worn at all times; if a student does not have this equipment, they will not be allowed to participate.

  • Gloves

  • Shin guards with instep

  • Mouth guard

  • Head guard (Kids classes)


Students are to partner with other students who are of similar height and build to reduce risk of injury.

If there are any concerns that may jeopardise the safety of yourself or an individual, please notify the instructors immediately and cease any further activity.
 
All martial arts activity should be conducted in a light and playful way; the use of strength and power is to be removed to protect each practitioner and to continue in the good spirit of training. Hard punches, kicks, slams, locks and chokes with the intent to cause damage and pain is strictly prohibited.

Below are the rules for areas of martial arts engagement; a student must understand these rules before proceeding with any kind of sparring and training activities.



Striking

Permitted

  • Light and controlled strikes to the head (Adults classes only)

  • Light and controlled strikes to the body and legs 

Illegal

  • Any type of strike to the head, groin area, or eyes

  • Any type of elbow strike

  • Any kind of strike with the intention to hurt or injure

  • Any type of strike to the head (Kids classes)



Throws
Practitioners are to understand how to break-fall safely to receive a throw 

Permitted

  • Hip Throws

  • Dropping throws ("Sacrifice throws")

  • Sweeps and trips

  • Wrestling style takedowns

Illegal

  • Slams

  • Spiking to the head and neck area

  • Throws that may cause risk to the knee area; example: Kani Basami (Scissor Throw), deep leg reaping.

  • Any kind of throw with the intention to hurt or injure



Ground​​

"Tap Out"
Both practitioners are to understand the "tap out" rule from a submission; if a student wants the technique to stop, tap out by the following methods:

  • Tapping with the hand a minimum of 3-times on the opponent, on the ground, or on themselves.

  • If the hand is unable to tap due to a position that prevents it to; the student can tap with their foot on the ground or yell "tap tap tap!"

  • The tap should be hard enough to be felt or heard.

  • If a tap is felt, seen, or heard by a student, the technique or position must be stopped immediately.

  • If a student is unsure whether they should stop or continue the technique, they should immediately stop regardless to ensure the safety of their opponent

  • Under no circumstance should a student continue a technique if there is a sign of injury or tapping out

  • Techniques should be applied slowly, carefully and in a safe and controlled manner with the intention to give the opponent an opportunity to tap out. Under no circumstance should a technique be applied with the intention to damage or injure, or to apply the technique with any kind of immediate force.


Permitted

  • Locks on the arm or shoulder

  • Straight ankle lock

  • Chokes applied with the legs or arms

  • Chokes with the uniform


Illegal 

  • Any kind of spine or neck lock

  • Any kind of knee lock (Permitted only to Brown and Black Belts)

  • Any kind of lock that causes a rotation the foot (eg: toe hold, heel hook) (Permitted only to Brown and Black Belts)

  • Any kind of finger lock

  • Any kind of wrist lock (Permitted in Adults classes) 

  • Any kind of choke that is applied to the trachea (Permitted in Adults classes)

  • Any kind of reaping to the leg and knee
